Tips from Representatives of Student Organisations

Something interesting happens at HSE University every week. Student organisations regularly hold events at our university and beyond. It would be foolish not to make the most of their knowledge and experience, so we have collected a range of tips from representatives of these organisations.

The timing of an event depends on its scale (from one week to two months)

However, on average, any project can be implemented in 2–4 weeks if you stick to a detailed plan and do everything on time.

Make reservations at the Cultural Centre in advance

Since extra-curricular life at HSE is full of various events, the large hall, small hall, or any other room in the Cultural Centre should be reserved in advance (including for rehearsals!).

Make a detailed plan (an ‘event passport’)

The ‘passport’ should include all the most important points for organising the event: deadlines and timings, stages of implementation, responsible team members and critical tasks.

Allocate responsibilities

You don’t need a large team to organise high-quality work. You just need to plan it well, designate people responsible for different areas and tasks, and build communication between different levels of management in the project.

Don't be afraid to ask for help from the SISC

If you need any kind of assistance for your project—classroom reservations, temporary passes, financial and informational support—the Student Initiatives Support Centre can help with all of this and more.

There are many different charitable projects at HSE university. They differ in scale but have one main similarity: the intention to help. Every student who decides to engage in charitable projects has the opportunity to organise events of all sizes: donation events; trips to orphanages, shelters and nursing homes; or major grant projects such as ‘Letter to the Future’ for example. There are no limits to kindness!

Sometimes an event needs to attract sponsors. HSE student organisations have experience with this; the Movement organisation is one example. Visitors to this organisation’s events can sample food and drinks or win prizes from sponsors. So, nothing is impossible—the main thing is to find the right contacts.

Organising events is an exciting but difficult process. However, with each other's help, we can cope with any obstacles. For example, members of the TV HSE student organisation sometimes turn to their colleagues from other organisations for help. They are ready to help in return, which they often do by shooting videos or reporting at events, for example.
